Viola have been known and valued since antiquity. Beyond their decorative function, they were used to prepare medicinal remedies and violet wine. One of the greatest admirers of these flowers was Napoleon Bonaparte himself.

When he was exiled to the island of Elba in 1814, his supporters wore small violet bouquets as a sign of loyalty, and the leader himself was nicknamed the “violet corporal.” Violets also inspired many artists and gained particular popularity during the Romantic era. Today, they are among the most popular flowers planted in Polish gardens.
